What I've been up to by Lhuin What I've been up to by Lhuin
Big file!

Reason why I've been a bit inactive lately! Been working on some commissions and also this... our current uni project which is about reportage illustration. We had to contact a place/company/organisation and arrange visits to go out and draw.
I was struggling to find a place, I knew I wanted something to do with animals but most places wouldn't even reply to me...  but I finally found about this local dog training place. The guy there is really experienced and nice, and I'm super grateful that he let me come! I've been visiting every week and doing tons of drawings, this is a selection of about 20 pages but I've currently filled one sketchbook and got quite far into a second one already. Must be about 100 pages worth of drawings : D
I'm going to do a final work based on these and already did a little booklet with watercolour, might upload that at some point too.

But I've really enjoyed this project so far!! And I've learned a lot. Mostly about life drawing, I never really did it before but I really think I've learned more about drawing (and drawing dogs) in the past 5 weeks than I've ever done before... never underestimate the power of life drawing. And I've really come to like it, have to do it more often, not just dogs of course!
But the main thing is, doesn't matter if they turn out bad  at least at first, you'll learn more and more every time you do some and you also get a lot faster. I think it's so much fun! I feel like I've improved a lot on drawing during this unit and not focusing on trying to get every little detail perfect all the time. I'm such a perfectionist it's not even fun sometimes so this is really good practice for me for being more confident about that too >u< and with a lot of these the main point wasn't even getting perfect drawings but getting the point across and recording/documenting what's happening in the class.

You might notice I haven't really drawn the owners here, I wasn't really allowed unless I asked them all separately so I was trying to avoid drawing their features.

Lots of blah blah blah!
Anyway, like I said, here's a selection of some pages from my two sketchbooks. I've met lots of nice dogs and owners, but my favourite dogs have to be the Greyhound called Sirius, a golden retriever called Flossy and a mixed breed dog (border collie/greyhound/labrador) Joey :D can you find them all?
These are ALL drawn from life/on location apart from one drawing of Joey that was referenced from a photo I took in the class. It's the one above the greyhound head.

Just wanted to upload some of these on DA since I happened to go through them and I've been a bit quiet lately :) and I don't normally upload a lot of sketches anyway.

I can see improvement, that's a sure thing!
I've been doing life studyings the past 3-4 weeks and I haven't really found time to draw on computer or make a full piece but hopefully I will soon!
Life drawing is so much fun! I hope you'll dome more of these, as well as draw other subjects than canines and felines and become even better!
All the sketches are so lovely :'D
(On weekends I've been visiting train stations and drawing people coming, go and waiting for the train and such, I strongly suggest you to do the same, it is so much fun!! And the best part is that I go wherever the train goes, for one hour or two and then come back, so I have like.... at least 2 sketchbooks with me because they fill so quickly!!)

This sounds like a really neat project! It's fun to see how much variety there is in the different dogs. Will you be posting any of the finished project?
