The Curious Fox by Lhuin The Curious Fox by Lhuin
Been a long time since I did something as extensive as this, haven't done a full bg with foliage and other elements in a while :D got it mostly done in the streams but did the final adjustments now so it's all good for uploading.
Tried to something a bit more illustrative than just a 'character posing in the middle of the picture' this time, I feel like I've been a bit stuck with my works lately so trying out some things. Most of them shall stay in my sketchbook for now though haha.

Anyway hope you like it :) and rest assured, the fox is not after a ducky snack! ...unlike some of you in the stream! :eyes:

drawn in Photoshop, took quite a few days to do.

print to follow soon!

edit: last minute change! Flipped the picture. I think it flows better this way.

I'm sorry, but what I'm seeing is a fox ready to kill some ducklings. :crying: It's a very beautiful artwork, and I greatly admire your work in general, but to me this one doesn't communicate a curious fox, it looks to be intently staring at the ducklings (they themselves look friendly and curious), and the raised paw adds to the predator intentness.  He looks like he's crouching and has his paw raised (like a stalking cat) in readiness to attack.
I realize you may have been portraying the fox as walking forwards, in that case I think it would have been better to have the paw actually outstretched in mid-stride to indicate that. And I'd like to say I have nothing against foxes, they're cute animals certainly, I'm just pointing out that that's what this communicated to me. Perhaps if the fox was already almost off the log, and past the ducklings it wouldn't feel so dangerous. I watch a lot of nature shows as well though, so I've watched a lot of interaction between predator to prey, it's quite possible that's influencing my thinking. :P
I absolutely love the way you did the water, it's so beautiful!

aHH I don't know why I never got saw this in my message centre?
But hah yeah I do agree that if I could go back I could probably make the pose and the body language of the fox a bit different!
The main thing I tried to do to convey the fact that he's curious instead of predatory was mostly his face, I tried to make it 'soft' and friendly enough and a bit stylised I guess, and not mean (for example basic evil fox eyes and licking his lips like on all those cartoons) in any way at all? But might not have been enough to portray that!
