Fox mask by Lhuin Fox mask by Lhuin
It's donee! Not 100% happy with the photos though, surprisingly difficult to take good photos of something like this, looks a lot better irl, trust me hahah. But it'll do for now.
This is a mask I've been working on for a while now, it's of my fox character. I tried to make it as realistic as I could.
There are some flaws, but I'd be surprised if it didn't have any haha. It's the first mask I've ever done in any case so I am happy enough with it and it's quite comfy to wear too which is good.

The mask was done 100% from a scratch, and it includes a moving jaw, hand sculpted nose and jawset (and tongue), glass eyes (with a slight follow-me effect, no idea why o_o). The eye cabochons were obviously bought online but I drew the eyes myself.
The colours were dry brushed on, and the vision is through the tear ducts.

I'm not sure if I like the ears, they look good in some photos but not so good in some. Might mess around with them and some other parts later in any case.

But hope you like it! ^^ was a lot of fun to work on.

Special thanks to Sticky Buddy that saved me from drowning in fur :--D

EDIT: There were some things that were really bothering me especially with the eyes so I went back and tried fixing some stuff as well as I could at this point. Mainly messing around with the eyelids and did some paint work on the inside parts of the eyes too so that they appear more centered and a bit smaller! Managed to make the pupils wider too. Had to take new photos of course to show what I changed. Not perfect but a bit better.
Hope to improve a lot with my next masks though, was a lot of fun and a learning experience and definitely want to keep doing these!

Hey, i am about to make myself a mask as well. For an upcoming con. It will be my first time ever making a mask. I was wondering if you had any tips?

I also was curious how you made the base for your mask?

just... where did you got the faux furs? and the eyes? Amazing mask and it's gonna be all the better when you get practising! I would have liked to try making something like this too but never knew how and where to get the ingredients

I got the fur from [link] , and quite happy with it! It's the arctic fox fur from there :) but yeah, this one has some mistakes but that's how you learn really! :D I hope my second one will be a lot better, excited to work on it but need to buy some more materials.
As for your other question, it is definitely possible to make this at home, I made this one 100% at home, didn't really need a working space or anything. I only went outside for a bit to do one of the layers on the base and in the future if I work with resin I might want to do that in a 'safer' room than bedroom etc.

Depends really on how you want to do it! ^^ there's quite a few ways, such as foam, resin, or how I made this (paper mache with a few coatings/layers to seal it and make it waterproof)

I don't mean to butt in on your conversation, but if you seriously intend to continue working with resins save yourself some nervous system damage and buy a good respirator. You can get them for under $50.00 in most places, and in my opinion it's not an optional investment... even if you cast outside. Unless the bottle says otherwise, those fumes are absolutely terrible for you to breath.

Ah yeah, definitely! Been reading about that, I'm always a bit paranoid about health stuff so would definitely invest in a good respirator. Don't want to have any problems with that kind of stuff and don't want to breathe any of those fumes in...!

I really believe that if you were about to start making fursuits you'd be a billionare x'D

The eyes probably have a follow-me effect because whatever glass you used was slightly rounded on both sides. That's what creates the follow me effect in most mask eyes.

Yeah! And I heard too that it's because of the eyelids that help to create the effect. Interesting!
